"Thalassa" by Swoon

This piece can currently be viewed at New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). It is displayd in NOMA's Great Hall so it is the first thing you see as you walk through the door. I must say that when I entered the museum, I was awe struck. Its absolutely amazing and made completely from paper products! I just couldn't stop looking at it. There are so many different textures and colors and even though it looks messy... it's still beautiful.

The name of the piece is "Thalassa" and it depicts a sea deity which represents New Orleans' reliance on water.  The mastermind behind this piece is the artist Swoon.  Swoon hails from New York and is known for her large scale paper works.  This piece is actually 20 feet tall and the "tentacles" are attached to the Great Hall's railings.   If you watch the video below you an see some of the process in creating this wonderful creation.  If you'd like to see "Thalassa" for yourself; it'll be on exhibition until September 25th.
